Outdoor Season announced

LUCA is announcing a revamped outdoor schedule for 2023. LUCA will host a pre-BUCS open meet in March and a championship event in June. These events replace the three-meet LUCA Outdoor Series, which saw athletes compete for points across three events in March, April and May. The pre-BUCS Open Meet will be held on 26th March at Battersea. This event is aimed at all current university students to prepare for BUCS outdoors which is held across 29 April to 1 May. LUCA takes on BUCS Indoors Championships

Last weekend, the annual pilgrimage to Sheffield for BUCS indoors returned as on Friday the 15th, the weekend marking the opening of the athletics season kicked off at 13:00 with the Men’s 60m heats on the track. With 109 entries, it was the most contested event of the Championships. Brunel host BUCS Cross Country

Tomorrow, Brunel will host the National BUCS Cross Country Championships. The race takes place at Hillingdon fields. Women will race first at midday with Brunel and Team GB athlete Phillipa Bowden hoping to make the most of the home advantage. The Brunel Psychology student has had a unfaltering start in the LUCA XC league, winning every race. She will face stiff competition from in-form Jess Judd who finished third last year to Rebecca Murray and Emily Hosker-Thornhill, but has since won the National and Inter Counties championships. The May bank holiday weekend brought much excitement for student athletics in the form of the BUCS outdoor athletics championships. There were spectacular performances from students around the UK, including new records in the Pole Vault (well done to Adam Hague with 5.35m), Hammer (well done to Taylor Campbell of Loughborough with 73.40m), as well as both the seated discus and shot put for Vanessa Wallace (F34) and Stacie Gaston (F57) in their respective categories. Jess Judd ‘not allowed’ to run in BUCS 5000m ‘A’ race

BUCS and English Cross-Country Champion, Jess Judd will not run in the ‘A’ race at BUCS Outdoor Championships. Competition rules require a road or track 5000m performance from within the last two years, which Judd does not have. She will run in the ‘B’ race instead. The Loughborough University student and Sky Scholar, who won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Youth Championships and a silver medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships, took to Twitter to express her frustration. University of London athletics club; triumph at BUCS and plans for the future

BUCS comes to London

The BUCS 10,000m championships will be held at Parliament Hill in the Highgate Harriers, Night of the 10,000m PB’s. The event will also incorporate the 2017 IAAF World Championship GB Trials and British National Championship. The night of the 10,000m has been one of the major athletics success stories in recent years. Unlike traditional track races, spectators are invited onto the track to cheer athletes on from lane 3. St Mary’s and Brunel shine in Sheffield

Brunel’s Rebecca Murray and Southampton’s Alex Teuten win Gold at the largest ever BUCS Cross-Country Championships at Graves Park in Sheffield. St Mary’s took the top place in the Men’s Long and Short Team races. Conditions were cool and dry but the course was wet from heavy rain overnight. Thick mud, hills and jumps provided technical challenges to the 1991 athletes across three races. The 2017 edition of BUCS Cross-Country is being held in Sheffield this Saturday. Students will travel from Universities across the United Kingdom to compete. The championships include three races: the men’s long (10,360m), men’s short (8,180m) and women’s Long race (7,380m). Athletes can only race in one race.
