BUCS 10,000 Host Announced

The Loughborough Open Meet will host the BUCS 10,000 Championships in 2018. The event split off from BUCS Outdoor Championships in 2017 due to UKA permitting regulations on timetable duration. The 2017 event was held alongside Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PB’s. LUCA had applied to host the event but the BUCS sports advisory group decided to award the competition to Loughborough University. The decision was based upon a number of factors including the date of event, resource needed from BUCS office and the permit process. Save the date: Hyde Park Relays 2018

Imperial College London Athletics have announce the date for Hyde Park Relays. The annual relays, the largest student relays in the UK, will be held on the 3rd March 2018. The event sees over 600 competitors take on a 5K in central London’s Hyde Park. Athletes compete in men’s/mixed teams of six and women’s teams of four. The event is a highlight of the university athletics calendar and attracts student athletes from across Europe. Changes to the Cross-Country League

The LUCA Cross-Country League will trial a new results system this season. Previously known as the London Colleges League (LCL), the LUCA Cross-Country League will trial a ‘parkrun’ style results system in the 2017-18 season. This will require all athletes to register on the LUCA website before racing. Athletes only need to register once throughout their time at university. Upon registering, athletes will receive a unique five-character ID number starting with their initials. Train at Altitude Without Leaving London

A London office tower block has installed a running track on its roof. The ‘White Collar Factory’, next to Old Street’s ‘Silicon Roundabout’ now features a two-lane 150-metre track. Google are set to follow its example with a 200-metre “running trial” on the roof of its planned King’s Cross HQ. The 16th-floor cushioned “rubber crumb” rooftop circuit was designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. The track is marked with a start/finish line and lanes. Motspur is aiming to raise £500 for the trophy, which will be awarded to the top ranked club at the end of each season. Nominations close soon for the 10th year of England Athletics’ volunteer awards. Each of 8 regions select winners who attend a special Regional Awards Celebration Ceremony between September and October. These winners are then entered into the National Awards, with the overall winners invited to the 2017 NationalAwards and Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday 14th October.
