LUCA Vision 2030: The Future of University Athletics in London and the South East

LUCA has been at the heart of university athletics in London and the South East since it’s founding 10 years ago. Now, we’re looking ahead to the next chapter—LUCA Vision 2030—our long-term strategy to grow, innovate, and make athletics more accessible, inclusive, and impactful for every student.

What is Vision 2030?

Vision 2030 is LUCA’s roadmap for the future. It’s a bold plan to:

  • Enhance participation by making athletics welcoming to all, from complete beginners to national-level athletes.
  • Strengthen university clubs by providing better support, resources, and funding opportunities.
  • Improve competition formats to ensure they remain exciting, sustainable, and accessible.
  • Achieve charity status to unlock new funding sources and secure LUCA’s long-term future.
  • Build a reserve fund to safeguard the financial health of university athletics.

To shape this vision we are running two stakeholder involvement phases.

Phase 1 – closed

We invited athletes, club leaders, alumni, technical officials and university staff to contribute to LUCA Vision 2030 by completing our stakeholder survey. The feedback provided will inform the work of two working groups established in Phase 2.

Phase 1 has now been complete and the findings from the surveys are available below.

Phase 2 – Opening Soon

Phase two consists of two working groups dedicated to reviewing the phase 1 feedback and proposing ideas. The two working groups are on the themes:

A. Joint training and collaboration

B. Competition and event expansion.

Attendance at these working groups is open to everyone in the LUCA community. They will be primarily in person in London but with some hybrid options. They will be chaired by Alastar Phelan and James Findon.
