Starting university? Find your athletics club

Starting university this September? Whether you’re an experienced athlete, a regular runner, or completely new to the sport, your university athletics club is one of the best places to get involved.

LUCA brings together 20+ university athletics and running clubs across London, the East and South East, creating opportunities to train, compete and meet students from across the region.

University athletics starts here

University clubs cater for a huge range of athletes.

You might be looking to continue competing at a high level, try a new event, get back into running, or simply find a group of people to train with. You do not need to arrive at university with years of athletics experience behind you, in fact most members of university athletics clubs are new to the sport.

Throughout the academic year, LUCA clubs come together for a programme of competitions ranging from cross-country league races to indoor and outdoor championships. Clubs will also compete at national championships (BUCS) and other regional events. Some clubs arrange international trips to take part in races all over the world.

Find your university club

We’ve made it easier to find the athletics or running club at your university.

Use our Find Your Club directory to search for your institution and find links to your club’s website, Instagram and joining information.

Once you’ve found your club, follow them on Instagram and check their joining information. Most clubs will advertise introductory sessions, Freshers events and training information during the first few weeks of term.

Train. Race. Belong.

University athletics is about more than competition.

Your club can become your training group, your team and an important part of university life. LUCA events bring together students from universities across the region, creating the chance to represent your institution while becoming part of a much wider athletics community.

And if competition is what you’re looking for, there is plenty of it.

From muddy cross-country races to indoor sprints, road relays, jumps, throws and outdoor championship finals, there are opportunities throughout the year to pull on your university vest.

Can’t find your university?

Not every university currently has a LUCA-affiliated club.

If your university does not appear in the directory, you can still take part in LUCA competitions. You can enter yourself into any of our competitions. If you’re at a university in London, the East or South East of England, then you are eligible to medal. If you’re at an institution outside of our region, you can still compete as a guest.

If your university already has an athletics or running club but is not currently affiliated with LUCA, we would also be delighted to hear from your committee. Clubs at institutions based in London, the East or South East of England are eligible to affiliate with us.
