The former UEL student is confident of an Olympic medal. At just 22, Rio will be Adam Gemili’s second Olympics. At his final test ahead of the Games, Gemili looked strong, racing with Bolt at the Anniversary games, in an exciting race which saw him finishing 3rd. “It’s crazy that I’m going to the Olympics again,” said Gemili, […]

An outstanding result from the first evening was the World Record in the women’s 100m hurdles (see the BBC footage here). Keni Harrison of America pulled away from the rest of the field to win […]

Staying fit over summer, why and how?

July 23, 2016 Louise Pech

When the temperature rises, friends, festivals, beach, barbecues and family also come around, and it means that running sometimes gets forgotten. Although it is necessary  to take a break at the end of the summer racing season, stopping all forms of training until university starts again is not the wisest option. WHY? Too hot to run?

July 19, 2016 James Findon

With temperatures hitting above 30 in the Capital, you might be wondering – is it safe to go for a run? Running in the heat is considered an effective training method for all disciplines of athletics. This is because when it is hot, your muscles get less oxygen and therefore are less efficient. But by training more and more in the heat, the muscles adapt and become more efficient. It’s just a shame we don’t have consistently high temperatures in London. That being said, you don’t need hot weather to raise […]

The Beer Mile World Classic (BMWC), held by co-founders Katie Williams and Nick Mcfalls, is being held in the UK this year at Allianz Park, Saracens Stadium, 10am – 6pm on the 31st of July. The event gathers Beer Mile runners from Europe, USA, Australia, and Canada to celebrate a passion for athletics and good old-fashioned craft brew (basically the race is an excuse to get smashed and run like the wind). The BMWC is split into four laps, with runners having to consume 1 beer (355ml at 5%ABV) per […]

Importance of the Core and How to Train it

July 13, 2016 Lucy Patchett

The core mainly consists of the torso muscles: the abdominis and obliques. However, contrary to many people’s conception of the core simply being that much desired ‘six-pack’, there is much more to it than meets the eye. This powerhouse of muscle also includes the diaphragm, pelvic floor, back muscles (multifidus), and the gluteus maximus. […]
