‘The world’s most exciting track meet‘ is back with a bang this Saturday 6th of July, as thousands are once again expected to descend on Parliament Hill for the 7th edition of the Night of the 10,000 PBs. Having attracted 8,000 spectators, as well as over 50,000 watching online, you could say that the atmosphere might be more Glastonbury than the usual serenity of Hampstead Heath come the last few races. The remarkable thing is, this isn’t organised by some big events company or a national governing body, but an […]

Are you experiencing Hyde Park relay withdrawal symptoms after the “beast from the east” cruelly led to the cancellation (or rather hopeful postponement) of the 2018 edition last Saturday? Then you’re in luck: UCL is organising a 50k bleep test in the very same location this Saturday, March 10th. Consisting of 10 five-kilometre laps, this event might not appear to be for the faint of heart at first sight. However, the objective is not to run 50 kilometres so much as to last as long as you can. Each […]

The three competitions (LUCA Champs, UL Champs and UH Champs) are run in parallel. There are no separate races for each competition. Instead, points are allocated according […]
By Agustina Singh & Alex Yeo (LSE) Pole vaulting is not a sport for the faint-hearted. Besides requiring a certain amount of courage to charge down the runway holding a really long piece of fibre glass, pole vaulters have to combine the speed of a sprinter, power of a jumper, and the grace of a gymnast, in order to make a successful jump. Last Sunday, athletes made their way to the world-class Lee Valley Athletics Centre for the very first LUCA pole vault training session. This is part of a 6-session […]
LUCA is proud to announce a new pole vault training group for London students. Novice and experienced vaulters will have the opportunity to train with a qualified coach at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Track every Sunday, leading up to the LUCA Indoor Championships in November. Most clubs struggle to provide pole vault coaching due to the specialised nature of the event and high coaching fees. The training group will bring students from across London together to train. The group is open to all athletes from clubs who have registered for […]

In September last year, I discovered that the IAAF World Athletics were taking place in London in 2017. After hearing great things about the volunteering experience at the 2012 Olympics, I was keen to apply to be a ‘Runner’ (the name given to all the volunteers).
There are eight committee positions available for students and alumni. The new committee was elected at the AGM in May, but several positions remain unfilled. Applications are now open to be considered by the executive committee. Joining the committee is an excellent way of gaining new skills and contributing to the athletics community. Job roles vary in their level of commitment and all committee members receive a free Nike LUCA shirt. See below for a list of the avaialble roles and their job descriptions. Apply by application here. Applicants may […]
