In September last year, I discovered that the IAAF World Athletics were taking place in London in 2017. After hearing great things about the volunteering experience at the 2012 Olympics, I was keen to apply to be a ‘Runner’ (the name given to all the volunteers).

There are eight committee positions available for students and alumni. The new committee was elected at the AGM in May, but several positions remain unfilled. Applications are now open to be considered by the executive committee. Joining the committee is an excellent way of gaining new skills and contributing to the athletics community. Young athletics leaders from all over Europe will gather in London ahead of the World Championships in August. Committee members from LUCA affiliated clubs are invited to come together with leaders from across Europe. The free gathering for Young Leaders spans across the days of the 7th-10th of August inclusive. Attendees can sign up for individual. The aim of the gathering is to share experiences, network across countries and cover topics including leadership, teamwork and inclusivity. Preliminary dates and venues have been announced for the LUCA Cross-Country League and Indoor Championships. As per tradition, the first cross-country fixture will be held at Parliament Hill in October. Competitors will then travel to Mitcham Common (1nd Nov) and Wimbledon Common (15 Nov) fort the University of London Cross-Country championships and Bannister Cup. Later in November is the LUCA Indoor Championships at Lee Valley on the 25th.
