Gemili ‘trying to run with one leg’ to gain world champs place

Former UEL student, Adam Gemili said he was ‘trying to run with one leg’ when forced to compete at British trials for a place in the world championships team.   The three-times European gold medallist missed out on Olympic bronze at Rio last summer by three thousandths of a second. However, struggling with a hamstring injury after competing at the world relay championships in the Bahamas in April, Gemili wasn’t able to impress selectors at British Trails. New kids on the block: St George’s become ratified

St George’s Student Union have ratified a new athletics club, three years after the previous club dissolved. The new club will be led by medical student and ex GB sprinter, Somto Eruchie. St George’s is a medical school based in Tooting, South London. It is a constituent college of the University of London and a founder member of the now defunct ‘United Hospitals Athletics Club’ St George’s won the second edition of the United Hospitals Athletics Shield in 1868 and won it most recently in 2005. UCL win athletics quadruple

UCL have won the LUCA Outdoor Series and University of London Outdoor championships, adding to the two indoor championships they won in November. There was no doubt at the start of the third stage that UCL would win the Outdoor Series. But for the majority of the afternoon, LSE led the University of London Outdoor Championships. Strong showings in the relays saw UCL leapfrog LSE into the lead, winning the championships with 233 points to LSE’s 209 and King’s 201. Full results available here and on powerof10 soon. Battersea’s Millennium Arena will once again host the LUCA Outdoor Series final tomorrow. UCL are expected to win the series but there will be plenty of drama in the individual events and between teams competing for the University of London Outdoor Championship. If the UofL championships had been held at Twickenham or Woodford, UCL would have won both times. However, LSE and King’s have increased the size of their teams for tomorrow’s meet. The May bank holiday weekend brought much excitement for student athletics in the form of the BUCS outdoor athletics championships. There were spectacular performances from students around the UK, including new records in the Pole Vault (well done to Adam Hague with 5.35m), Hammer (well done to Taylor Campbell of Loughborough with 73.40m), as well as both the seated discus and shot put for Vanessa Wallace (F34) and Stacie Gaston (F57) in their respective categories. Motspur President: Parliament Hill race kept me at University

President of Motspur AC, Glenn Barden reveals that he was close to quitting university in 2008, but running Parliament Hill in the LCL Cross-Country league made him decide to stay. Barden became the first president of the newly formed LUCA alumni club, Motspur, last year. Motspur is exclusively for graduates of LUCA affiliated clubs and offers free entry into LUCA events post-graduation. Six time Olympic gold medalist David Weird and European 10,000 Champion, Jo Pavey visited Southwark Park Athletics Centre today. With two days to go until the London Marathon, the pair were greeted by athletes from King’s College London, London City AC and Southwark’s Mini-Marathon team. Weir and Pavey were quizzed by athletes on a range of topics from diet to training techniques. Weir will be going for a seventh London Marathon gold on Sunday. Outdoor Series Stage 2 results

Results from yesterday’s LUCA Outdoor Series Stage 2 meet are now online.  The series standings, including team and athlete standings can be found here. Downloadable (excel) results can be found there too. Results will soon be listed on the thepowerof10. UCL extended their lead and LSE came second at stage two to become level with King’s overall. The third and final LUCA Outdoor meet will take place at Battersea on the 27th May. This will also incorporate the University of London Outdoor Championships.

Try out The Hawkshead Hobble 5km & 10km

Fancy a challenge? RVC TRI club are hosting a cross-country 5km and 10km race on the 14th May 2017 in aid of Trusty Paws. This amazing, volunteer-run charity works alongside the homeless in London, making sure their pets get the health care they need. The route will take you through the woods and fields surrounding RVC’s stunning Hertfordshire campus, starting and finishing in our new sports centre. UCL take the lead at the St Mary’s GP

Current LUCA Outdoor Series holders, UCL opened a 51 point lead at the first meet of the LUCA Outdoor Series at St Mary’s. Conditions were mild and windy in Twickenham, South West London for the first of three LUCA Outdoor Series meets. This was the first time the series had visited St Mary’s Track, resulting in a strong turn out from the ‘blue and white army’.
