King’s win Outdoor Series Championship

May 27, 2018 James Findon

King’s won the fourth Outdoor Series Championship at a warm sunny day in Battersea. Knowing that the outdoor series title was pretty much in the bag, this meet was all about winning the University of London championship as well. King’s didn’t want to become the first team not to win the double of LUCA and UL championships. Throughout the day, the title position oscillated between UCL and King’s. But the relay’s changed it all. King’s took first place in the men’s and women’s 4X100 and 4X400. The UL title was […]

May 25, 2018 James Findon

Athletes are preparing for the final LUCA at Battersea Park tomorrow. In a record breaking season, another record fell on Tuesday as entry numbers reached 217 – the highest turnout for a LUCA outdoor competition. One of those athletes is Kerstin Pohlmann (pictured). Pohlmann leads the charge for the MVP award (the athlete with the most points overall). She’s collected points across jumps, throws and hurdles. King’s will be hoping that Kerstin can help the club hurdle over their final challenge – to clinch the Outdoor Series. Harry Browning, President of King’s […]

The night of the 10,000m PBs is back and bigger than ever

May 14, 2018 Daniel Woodburn

Yes, there is a royal wedding this Saturday May 19th, but it is also the night of the 10,000 PBs, held at the Parliament Hill athletics track in the southeast corner of Hampstead Heath. Given that London is currently experiencing an Indian summer (albeit quite an erratic one), any athletics enthusiast – and anyone remotely interested in running, for that matter – would do well to spend their downtime at this event rather than sat in front of a TV. If you simply cannot miss the wedding, streaming it on […]

One hand on the trophy

May 11, 2018 Daniel Woodburn

Four seasons into the LUCA outdoor series’ existence, King’s are on the verge of regaining the trophy they last won in the inaugural season but have since lost out on to UCL. After KCL took a surprise 61-point lead at Parliament Hill, UCL and Imperial were bound to mount an assault at Lee Valley. However, the King’s contingent not only weathered the storm, but stretched their lead further to 94.5 points. It was, however, a much closer-run affair this time around, Imperial finishing the day with a tally only 12.5 […]

May 7, 2018 James Findon

Goldsmiths Athletics Club has won Best New Club at the Goldsmiths Student Union Awards. The revitalized club has been building steadily since the start of the academic year. Once a dominating force in London University athletics, Goldsmiths had been in decline over the last decade. But under the leadership of Sheriffah Arewa, the club has now been recognised for its development and growth. Arewa, who specializes in the High and Long Jump joined Goldsmiths as a fresher this year. She made an immediate impact, sealing an agreement with King’s College […]

The London Marathon – My Beautiful Race

May 1, 2018 Rahil Sachak-Patwa

I step through the archway into the Championship starting area. Whereas the mass start is abuzz with excitement, here the runners are reserved, concealing their enthusiasm for the sport that consumes their lives. Most are just sitting in the large tent, conserving their energy like predators about to go out on a hunt. They don’t want to burn through valuable fuel resources walking about in the sun; they know what’s ahead of them and that they’ll need every ounce of energy they can muster when it comes to the crunch. […]
