LUCA is announcing a revamped outdoor schedule for 2023. LUCA will host a pre-BUCS open meet in March and a championship event in June. These events replace the three-meet LUCA Outdoor Series, which saw athletes compete for points across three events in March, April and May. The pre-BUCS Open Meet will be held on 26th March at Battersea. This event is aimed at all current university students to prepare for BUCS outdoors which is held across 29 April to 1 May. Outdoor Series, Vitality Westminster Mile and Annual Awards

June 11, 2019 admin

Another year, another successful LUCA Outdoor Athletics Series. Fresh from their seasons on the country and racing indoors, the London Universities and Colleges descended on the iconic Parliament Hill tartan to begin the proceedings. The main event of the first meet was the lesser-spotted 10,000m Championships, giving athletes a rare opportunity to test themselves over the 10k distance in near ideal circumstances- useful for any athletes wishing to compete at BUCS or other exclusive events. The men’s edition was won by Imperial’s Henry Hart in 33’22” ahead of UCL’s Constantinos […]

Welcome back

January 9, 2019 Jack Dickenson

The last of the turkey’s gone, the tree is well and truly down and students everywhere are bemoaning the start of the new term. There is some good news though, as LUCA have some afternoons of joy (read: pain) to brighten the winter months. So, here’s a glimpse of what you can look forward to from us in 2019.   Ally Pally XC AKA when you realise that 8th mince pie might not have been the greatest shout. The shortest course, but also arguably the toughest, with some killer climbs […]

Clubs prepare for series final showdown

May 25, 2018 James Findon

Athletes are preparing for the final LUCA at Battersea Park tomorrow. In a record breaking season, another record fell on Tuesday as entry numbers reached 217 – the highest turnout for a LUCA outdoor competition. One of those athletes is Kerstin Pohlmann (pictured). Pohlmann leads the charge for the MVP award (the athlete with the most points overall). She’s collected points across jumps, throws and hurdles. King’s will be hoping that Kerstin can help the club hurdle over their final challenge – to clinch the Outdoor Series. Harry Browning, President of King’s […]

One hand on the trophy

May 11, 2018 Daniel Woodburn

Four seasons into the LUCA outdoor series’ existence, King’s are on the verge of regaining the trophy they last won in the inaugural season but have since lost out on to UCL. After KCL took a surprise 61-point lead at Parliament Hill, UCL and Imperial were bound to mount an assault at Lee Valley. However, the King’s contingent not only weathered the storm, but stretched their lead further to 94.5 points. It was, however, a much closer-run affair this time around, Imperial finishing the day with a tally only 12.5 […]

Outdoor Series Meet 2: Preview

April 27, 2018 James Findon

King’s go into the meet 61 points up but will be weary of a strong UCL team. Over 150 athletes will head to Lee Valley tomorrow to compete in the second meet of the LUCA Outdoor Series. At Parliament Hill, King’s opened a healthy 61 point gap, but they will be all to aware that strong starts don’t always mean strong finishes. It was at Lee Valley two years ago where Essex Blades started the day 41 points ahead of UCL and King’s, who were tied for points. UCL narrowed […]
