LUCA wins ‘Best Project’ at EA London awards

LUCA has won recognition by the National Governing body by winning ‘best project’ at the London regional volunteer awards. On the 16th November 2016, the London Region England Athletics Volunteer awards were held at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health. This event brought together a number of individuals and groups from around London that are dedicated to making athletics better through volunteering. This LUCA Girl Can Neon Rave Run

Last Thursday, LUCA took part in the national ‘This Girl Can’ campaign with its Neon Rave Run. As noted by a spokesperson of the campaign, This Girl Can was created in response to research revealing “a huge difference in the number of men and women playing sport”. To support the campaign, LUCA organised the girls only neon rave run, which involved a number of universities throughout London coming together in bright neon clothing and celebrating women in sport. Before the modern Olympic movement there was the United Hospitals Athletics Club (UHAC). The UHAC itself may no longer be operational, but the United Hospitals Athletics Championships associated with the club are still very much alive. On May 31, 1867, the UHAC was formed at the West Brompton running grounds by Mr S Edwin Jolly. Eligible members were students on a medically-related degree at King’s, Guys, London, St Thomas’s, University College, St George’s and St Mary’s.
