BUCS Outdoor Champs Report

BEDFORD London clubs showed their strength with a total haul of 22 medals. UEL topped the London BUCS medal table with 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. However, Brunel were placed higher then any other LUCA club by finishing 6th in the combined team ranking. Government Sports Rethink

MANCHESTER Today I represented LUCA at the A New Strategy for Sport: A Change of Approach conference, hosted by Open Forum Events at the Manchester Conference Centre. The conference had been arranged to discus the government’s new sports strategy that was published by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport back in December. This new strategy had been commissioned by Tracey Crouch MP amidst concerns that the previous strategy had failed the Olympic legacy targets. Lorn Mayers was on route to become a British NFL giant, but now he could be heading to Rio after reaching the qualifying standard for the F42 Shot Put. Mayers was spotted by NFL Europa scouts at a GB American Football practice session in 2005. After attending a testing day, he was invited to spend four days at a training camp in Tampa, Florida. Become a coach – LUCA funding available

LUCA is subsidizing two places on an upcoming coaching course at the Paddington Academy. The’Leadership in running fitness’ (LiRF) course is on the 7th May. The course will take place at Paddington Academy, 50 Marylands Road, London, W9 2DR. The nearest tube is Maida Vale. The LiRF course is a great opportunity to get on the coaching ladder. The course will enable you to deliver fun and safe sessions to multi-ability groups and give advice and support to the new runner, as well as developing pathways for those who want to progress.  […]

LCAS 2: Results

Preliminary results from yesterday’s LCAS meet are now online. LUCA clubs competing alongside athletes in the London Inter-Club Challenge (LICC) which included teams from Oxford, Cambridge and as far as Australia. LCAS standings will be updated later this week.

Mild conditions are expected on Sunday but athletes shouldn’t see any rain. A high of 13 degrees with winds of 8mph are forecast. Two days of rain across Friday and Saturday could mean a wet track and field.

Call for writers and editors

LUCA is launching a new news section on the website. Supported by the Daily Telegraph Sports Desk, the project will bring a vibrant mix of reviews, nutritional advice, meet reports, interviews and more to the website. The news section will also provide coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic games. Applications are now open and more information can be found here. Successful applicants will receive training with Daily Telegraph Sports desk staff.
