Last Saturday, LUCA descended on Lee Valley for what promised to be another fantastic Indoor Championships, with 236 athletes entered across the board. Incorporating both the University of London and United Hospitals Championships within the overall LUCA Champs, the day saw a range of excellent performances throughout, as well as some unexpected results. Brunel had never won a LUCA title before and it was widely expected that the fight for the David Morgan Cup would be between the much larger universities of UCL (37 athletes) and King’s (33). However, a team […]

Before the modern Olympic movement there was the United Hospitals Athletics Club (UHAC). On May 31, 1867, the UHAC was formed at the West Brompton running grounds by Mr S Edwin Jolly. Since then, notable committee members have included Sir Roger Bannister, Dr Peter Sperryn and David Morgan. The annual meeting hosted by UHAC featured events such as the 100 yards, 250 yards,  880 yards, 1 mile, 2 miles, 120 yard Hurdle […]

Due to the record breaking number of entries, the indoor championships timetable has been revised. The event will last approximately two hours longer than planned to accommodate the unexpectedly large number of competitors. Of course, it would help if runners were just a bit faster, as RVC’s Seth Kennard pointed out. Download a copy of the timetable here.   Follow the build up to indoor championships here.

Life Through Corridors of Uncertainty

November 21, 2017 James Findon

An autobiography can tell us much about the world as witnessed through the eyes of the writer.  When that writer is Honorary Chairman of the University of London Athletics Club, David Morgan, the result is the closest thing we have to a history book of London university athletics. David Morgan, 72, interleaves historical accounts of his life in sport with challenging political views and tributes to sporting heroes across several sports. The man who became Honorary Chairman of ULAC in 2015 and who had the LUCA Indoor Championship Trophy named […]
