ICXCAC at De Batavierenrace

April 25, 2018 Duncan Hunter

Its back and Bata than ever, another one of ICXCAC’s many, high quality trips. For the first time, we’ve taken a full team of 25 to what has been described in previous years as “the best trip I’ve been on with Cross Country” and “the daddy of all road relays”; a description that matches the experiences of this year, the 46th (and Imperial’s 4th) Batavierenrace. The race, a gargantuan 175 km, split into 25 legs, is the largest student relay race in the world, running through the night and into […]

February 21, 2018 Duncan Hunter

After a huge season of running cross country, it was time for perhaps the most important race of all – LXCL 5. Athletes traveled to a dreary Wormwood Scrubs to see who would be crowned champions. The race for first in the women’s league was tight, and would UCL hold on to their top spot in the men’s team? In the individual, Phillipa Bowden was guaranteed a win (1st place in all 4 of the races she ran in, quite impressive), but who could clinch the remaining spots? In the […]

November 3, 2017 Duncan Hunter

On a chilly day on the 1st of November, 76 Women and 124 Men gathered from a collection of universities to race in the second installment of the LUCA Cross-Country League at Mitcham Common. The weather was dry, with the course hard in places following good weather over the previous week, with it being fairly warm for this time of year. The race started with runners watching out for pot holes, and while serious injury is always unwanted, for the first time first aid cover was provided in the unlikely […]

October 19, 2017 Duncan Hunter

On 18/10/2017, UCL hosted the first LUCA cross-country race of the 2017/18 season. The weather was slightly damp, but refreshing and without rain, with the course not being as muddy as it may have been considering the recent stormy weather. The course was changed from previous years, having a shorter lap distance but with women completing 2 laps and men completing 3 (instead of 1 & 2). There were a fantastic 259 runners participating, with 146 men and 113 women. This led to a total of 58 teams, 29 in […]
