Rain, Mud and Hills: LXCL 4, Alexandra Palace

On the 24th January, 77 men and 60 women braved harsh weather conditions to race the 4th and penultimate event in the LUCA Cross Country League’s calendar. Patrick Roddy of UCL won the men’s race, finishing the 3 laps of the hill in 24 minutes, followed quickly by Oliver Dickinson (SMU) and Oliver Newtion (Imperial). In the women’s competition, Philly Bowden (Brunel) continued her dominance, beating Emma Butcher and Typhaine Christiaen (UCL and LSE respectively) in a time of 17:35. In the team competition, UCL A stretched their lead in the men’s to 38 points ahead of their closest rival, as Imperial A leapfrog Saint Mary’s into second. Imperial Women’s A hang on to first, but the gap between them and UCL has been closed from 9 points to 4 points. There is all to play for at Wormwood Scrubs in the final installment of LXCL 2017/18.

A big thank you to all the volunteers and first aiders who braved the rain and cold to make the race possible. Queues for entering results were limited by only having one laptop available, as we were fairly thin on the ground. LUCA always welcomes having extra people to help out, so if you can’t run and want to help out don’t hesitate to contact Catriona Rennison before Wormwood Scrubs. Thanks also to LSE for doing course set up and take down in what was the worst weather for LXCL in the past year.
