UCL win Double as King’s Take UH Shield – full results online now

UCL have defended their LUCA and UL title. The 2015 winners won the David Morgan Cup, given to the team with the most points, with a total of 38 points. King’s had 33 and Brunel 30. They won the UL trophy by a single point, clinching the prize in the final event of the day from King’s. King’s won the 149th United Hospitals Shield by a margin of 50 points to RVC’s 32.  A full report will follow. Results listed here.

Wimbledon Common LCL Race Report

King’s College London organised the third LUCA LCL cross-country race, which took place on Wednesday 16th of November 2016. Around two hundred students ran the Wimbledon Common XC course, which also incorporated the University of London (UL) and University Hospitals (UH) Championships. The female racers completed a ~5km hilly and muddy lap, while the male competitors ran two laps. With both female and male teams crowned UL Champs, UCL displayed very solid performances. Earlier this month, tragedy hit the sports community as two young, aspiring athletes were killed while using a pedestrian crossing during a night time training session with their club in Hampshire. Long-distance runners Stacey Burrows, 16, and Lucy Pygott, 17, had followed the instructions of their club leaders to ensure they used the pedestrian crossing safely, but unfortunately that was not enough. This Sunday, 250 athletes will descend on Lee Valley for the second LUCA Indoor Championships. Seventeen clubs have entered the championships with athletes entering a record 403 events. The championships also mark the first race for the newly formed LUCA alumni club, Motspur AC. The Indoor Championships are actually three separate championships rolled into one. Two-hundred and forty eight athletes have registered for LUCA Indoor Championships. Registration is now closed and no late entries will be considered. Teams may substitute athletes in the same event on the day. University College are the current champions of LUCA Indoor and holders of the University of London Intercollegiate Trophy. Imperial are holders of the United Hospitals Shield.

Top GB coach moves to King’s Athletics as new track opens

Top GB sprints coach, Lloyd Cowan (MBE) has joined King’s Athletics as head sprints coach. Cowan’s move to King’s Athletics also marks his move back to the refurbished Southwark Park Athletics Centre, where he worked for many years before the track fell into disrepair. LUCA wins ‘Best Project’ at EA London awards

LUCA has won recognition by the National Governing body by winning ‘best project’ at the London regional volunteer awards. On the 16th November 2016, the London Region England Athletics Volunteer awards were held at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health. This event brought together a number of individuals and groups from around London that are dedicated to making athletics better through volunteering.
