Nominate for England Athletics Volunteer awards

Nominations close soon for the 10th year of England Athletics’ volunteer awards. Each of 8 regions select winners who attend a special Regional Awards Celebration Ceremony between September and October. These winners are then entered into the National Awards, with the overall winners invited to the 2017 NationalAwards and Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday 14th October. Tributes paid to ‘legendary’ Bob Smith

“The impact of his work in the sport as a volunteer and a professional will continue to be felt and remembered” Tributes have been paid to athletics stalwart Bob Smith who has died from cancer. Smith was manager of the London Region and advised on the founding of LUCA and the London Colleges Athletics Series (now LUCA Outdoors). Gemili ‘trying to run with one leg’ to gain world champs place

Former UEL student, Adam Gemili said he was ‘trying to run with one leg’ when forced to compete at British trials for a place in the world championships team.   The three-times European gold medallist missed out on Olympic bronze at Rio last summer by three thousandths of a second. However, struggling with a hamstring injury after competing at the world relay championships in the Bahamas in April, Gemili wasn’t able to impress selectors at British Trails.
