LUCA announces committee shakeup

Committee roles now available

At an extraordinary general meeting held last week, club representatives voted to make changes to the committee and competition structure.

LUCA has been dealing with a budget crisis caused by pandemic-related competition suspension and a steep decline in active volunteers.

The EGM was called by the only two currently active committee members, Christian Pugsley and Abhilash Sivaraman.

Attendees agreed on the need to focus on the core offer of the Cross Country League, Indoor Championships and a potentially stripped-down outdoor series.

There was much debate about the potential to reduce the outdoor series to one or two matches (compared to the current three). A decision on this will be delayed, pending uptake to the athletics organising committee.

Attendees also decided to abolish the board of trustees and simplify the committee structure. Events will be organised by organising committees (OCs- athletics, cross country and London Students’ Run). Each OC will have a chair and several co-chairs. Athletics will be chaired by Christian Pugsley (UCL) and cross country will be chaired by Abhilash Sivaraman (UCL). The OC chairs will sit on a stripped down executive committee. Patrick Roddy (UCL) will join as Treasurer and James Findon will return as Chair. An election will be held for President at a later date.

The changes are intended to make it easier for students and alumni to volunteer to help run LUCA events.

There are several committee vacancies which are currently open. Students and alumni can register their interest here.
