Awards ceremony concludes a record breaking season

The 2018 university athletics season concluded with the LUCA awards. Athletes and volunteers from across the LUCA community came to Bush House to celebrate the achievements across a record breaking year. In a season which witnessed the biggest ever Indoor and Outdoor championships, there was always going to be a lot to celebrate. King’s win Outdoor Series Championship

King’s won the fourth Outdoor Series Championship at a warm sunny day in Battersea. Knowing that the outdoor series title was pretty much in the bag, this meet was all about winning the University of London championship as well. King’s didn’t want to become the first team not to win the double of LUCA and UL championships. Throughout the day, the title position oscillated between UCL and King’s. Clubs prepare for series final showdown

Athletes are preparing for the final LUCA at Battersea Park tomorrow. In a record breaking season, another record fell on Tuesday as entry numbers reached 217 – the highest turnout for a LUCA outdoor competition. One of those athletes is Kerstin Pohlmann (pictured). Pohlmann leads the charge for the MVP award (the athlete with the most points overall). She’s collected points across jumps, throws and hurdles. King’s will be hoping that Kerstin can help the club hurdle over their final challenge – to clinch the Outdoor Series. Nominations for the LUCA Awards have now closed. In total, 85 nominations were made across the eleven award categories. More nominations were received than in the last two years combined. Everyone is invited to the awards ceremony at Bush House this Sunday.  You must RSVP by clicking attending here or by email by 11am today (Friday 25th) at the latest. Sprinter who lost family to Ebola allowed to stay in UK

Jimmy Thoronka who was found sleeping rough a year after competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, has been granted leave to remain. The Sierra Leonean sprinter who absconded from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and was found sleeping rough on the streets of London has been granted leave to remain in the UK after a long legal battle. Motspur unveils new kit ahead of summer track season

Motspur AC, the LUCA alumni club, has revealed its new kit design ahead of the summer track season. The club was founded in 2016 as the official alumni club for all graduates of all LUCA affiliated universities and colleges. Members of the club enjoy free entry to LUCA events. Motspur has expanded its range of kit to include training tops and polo shirts. Errea remains the kit supplier and all purchases can be made direct through KitLocker. Goldsmiths Athletics Club has won Best New Club at the Goldsmiths Student Union Awards. The revitalized club has been building steadily since the start of the academic year. Once a dominating force in London University athletics, Goldsmiths had been in decline over the last decade. But under the leadership of Sheriffah Arewa, the club has now been recognised for its development and growth. The multi event challenge was won by Juliette Champaud (UCL) and Noel Rimensberger (Imperial), who picked up a new championship record of 2186. Kerstin Pohlmann (KCL) moves up to first place in the MVP ranking, just ahead of Alex Mundell (ICL) and Juliette Champaud (UCL).
